Margaret Drummond, known to all as Peggy, passed away April 18. She had been in poor health for several years and lived with friends in southern Illinois since 2000.

Peggy had worked at New Parkway Riding Stables in Lincoln Park in
Chicago and was injured rescuing horses from a fire there. Parkway succumbed to urban renewal in 1968. The Thompson family, who owned it, moved the operation to Palos Hills. Peggy managed that stable until the 1990s.

I met her there when I started riding in 1975. I can honestly say that
I learned more about riding and horses from her than any other teacher.

A memorial service will be held at Hills Riding Stables on April 26th,
at 7:00 PM. Peggy had expressed her wish to be cremated and have her
ashes spread on the trails. That wish will be carried out on the 26th.

Palos Hills Riding Stable is at 10100 South Kean Avenue, Palos Hills, Illinois: http://www.phrsinc.com/

Peggy was my riding instructor from 1960-63, in my high school years -- she was wonderful and yes, demanding, but such an expert and I worked hard on becoming a better rider, especially with the saddlebreds. She was also at Lakeside, 1508 North Clark,
when I first rode there. When I earned her praise, I felt on top of the world! So thankful for these memories! Phyllis Hamilton
