Had to put Buckley (32 year old off-track gelding) down. He was the
last of our original herd. Bought him in 89 to be my next event
prospect on the advice of Jean-Paul. Did well until he was about four
and then developed back problems (most likely kissing spines) that made
him unrideable. Tom Fool breeding with gorgeous conformation. We later
traded an appaloosa gelding for his dam but she died in foaling (lost
the foal too).
We're down to Fred our retired stallion, a couple of retired broodmares,
and some younger mares born here that we never sold. We still board, of course: mostly retirees. Getting really good at feeding old horses.
