    Hi readers and typers.

Back on August 20 I lost my net connection and my subscription to the Drug War Chronicle. I did not get it back September 8th.

You can find the DWC at:
    <https://stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle>

If I can get the subscription lined up properly so that
I get the long text version I may resume copying the Table of Contents
with Live URL to the usual newsgroups. The current issue contains
a lot of information on how much money can be made in the legal
    Marijuana Industry.

    Now the problem.
Congress is currently negotiating a package of bills to address the
overdose crisis. Unfortunately, they could make the crisis even worse by including legislation that would give the DEA and Attorney General
Sessions unprecedented new powers to ramp up the drug war and put even
    more people behind bars.

We don’t have much time to stop them. Demand that your Members of
Congress oppose unchecked drug war power for Sessions and instead
prioritize the solutions that will save lives. <http://links.drugpolicy.mkt7185.com/ctt?kn=10&ms=MzYxOTgzNzgS1&r=NTY4MTU0ODQ0NzM3S0&b=2&j=MTM2MjAwNDM0NwS2&mt=1&rt=0>

Earlier this year, we told you about the bill they are considering
including in their opioids package, The Stop Importation and Trafficking
of Synthetic Analogues (SITSA) Act. This misguided legislation would
give Sessions’ Justice Department broad new powers to ban synthetic
analogue drugs – and also medicinal plants like kratom that have been
    used for millennia.

The bill also lets Sessions decide what the sentences should be, and
takes away the requirement for Congressional oversight that has been in
place for 40 years. It would expand harsh sentences for drug offenses,
while creating new criminal penalties for thousands of new drugs.

This backwards legislation will do nothing to address the problem of
overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. It will just put
even more lives in jeopardy and make the drug war even worse.

Congress is rushing to finalize this legislation as early as next week.
If it passes, Sessions would have unchecked power to ban drugs and apply
harsh penalties at his whim, with no oversight and no basis in health or science.

Help us fight back: Contact your Members of Congress right away and urge
them to oppose this escalation of the drug war. <http://links.drugpolicy.mkt7185.com/ctt?kn=3&ms=MzYxOTgzNzgS1&r=NTY4MTU0ODQ0NzM3S0&b=2&j=MTM2MjAwNDM0NwS2&mt=1&rt=0>

Overdose deaths are preventable – but the only way to save lives is to embrace health-centered approaches that are proven to work.

Together, let’s oppose this unprecedented power grab and instead
advocate for the solutions that will save lives.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Collins
    Interim Director, National Affairs
    Drug Policy Alliance
