• How many strands of floss are the equivelant to pearl cotton size 3

From FSUStitcher@21:1/5 to All on Fri Oct 20 15:58:01 2017
I can't find pearl cotton size 3 in the color I want to use for a project. If I substitute embroidery floss how many strands do I need to use. TIA

    I would guess 8 strands. I found a site that said 2 strands for #12, 4 for #8, 6 for #5. Artfabrik.com/a-guess-on-thread-sizes

I would think so and I wouldn't strand the threads before use either,
in fact, giving them a little twist, stitch to stitch might imitate
    the pearl cotton better.

Perle thread is smoothly twisted rather than strands stitched flat. Here is a link that shows how to make perle(pearl) thread from floss.

For perle 3 I would use 8 strands of floss (2 lots of 4 strands each) and start with more than a 1 yard length, for example 1 and a half or even 2 yards.
    have fun

I would try 8 strands; #3 PC is pretty thick. Make sure you stripe and moisten your cut length; that will "puff up" the strand.
