That was the lathe of choice for most Uk professionals at one time.
Richard Raffan started on one and Ray Key certainly used one and may still.

This has about 24" spindle length. Odd its that short. I thought every lathe was 36" spindle length.

Funny how the title says "like new". Like new for a lathe that is 60-70 years old. Would you describe your 70 year old grandpa as like new?

an interesting looking lathe and if that one got little use it might be
good for a lot more turning

like what they call a barn find in the car collector culture

They last forever. What you see is a mass of cast iron with the option
of replacing the long for a short bed for bowl turning. The only
short-coming is that you have to be of average height to have your elbow
    at centre level.

I think you both may be right. Looking at the picture of the Union Graduate, it appears you can change/bolt on a new/different bed extension. Thus making it short or long bed normal lathe. AND you have the outboard too. Not sure if the outboard is
    changeable or not for length.

Don't know but most new born babies come out looking pretty wrinkly too -
    and frequently short of hair.
