• 2016 Gold Mercury dime

From oepepper@21:1/5 to All on Fri Apr 8 23:33:18 2016
The mint announced a 125,000 mintage limit on the new gold dime coming out the 21st of this month. They did not announce a price but I hope they do not try and gouge collectors. It will contain a 1oth ounce of gold so it will be at least $124 at todays
gold price. Thoughts on the mintage limits? Too high, not enough? Will they sell out first day? What you guys think? Got plans to buy any?

I personally have no plans on purchasing any of these. I do believe that
the mintage amount is too low. At a household limit of 10 (1 oz), I
think they will fly fast. At least $124 is at the least, IMHO. I'm seeing
more around $175, probably $199. It's not about spot prices with the
mint, but what they think people are willing to pay. The 1/10th oz gold
eagle is currently on backorder after only a few weeks (coincidence?), so people are going to be seeking out a quick alternative.

My thoughts, really: If you enjoy the "mercury" dime design, then take
the money and get a very nice MS specimen for the money. In the end, I do
not believe these are going to be anything more than just another piece
of low budget investor bullion in the years to come.

I think the mintage is very high. I doubt it will be a good investment numismatically but it's possible the gold price will go up. I certainly won't be buying.

Just as an update on the release: it appears the release price was $205
(sold out), and the tenth ounce gold eagle is sitting at $175 (with spot
at $130) on backorder. It's all about the money with the mint...how much
they can get out of you.
