... there was some very damming testimony and evidence
that links Trump to some of the illegal actions at the
Capital Building during the Jan 6 commission yesterday.

Not sure it rises to the level of criminal liability but
confirms in my mind that Trump should retire from
politics and just play golf in Jupiter, FL.

Some are out for blood and won't stop until they
draw some. But when you step back for a minute
    and consider the bigger picture,
the alleged "insurrection" failed (or simply didn't
    happen).

The Republic withstood the challenge. Pence was not
hung. Nobody was killed other than the protester
    shot by Capital Police.

Biden was confirmed as POTUS. Trump moved out
    of the White House.

Seems to me that Congress (and voters) have much more
important issues to deal with right now. The USA
is heading towards 3rd world status unless some
changes are made. Biden, although duly elected has
proven to be inept and totally unqualified to lead
    the nation.

Trumps support of a Republican candidate (likely Desantis) would
be salvor of our country. Any other scenario would make the
    outcome in 2024 iffy. JMHO

Manchin and Sinema are responsible for preventing the complete
disembowelment of America. We owe them a debt of gratitude.
Democrat leadership needs to be replaced with more centrist
individuals. Maybe that will happen after midterms. All democrats
need a voice in congress. Not just the ones with radical agendas.
We need to take and keep the power from the Democrat party until
they can demonstrate they have America's best interests at the
    forefront of their agendas.

I thought it was interesting that they blame Trump but the clip the
news keeps showing is Alex Jones. Why isn't he being charged if this
    is really a crime?

Maybe the 1st amendment enters in here somewhere.

To be fair, I am not watching this kubuki theater in the house since
it is not a judicial process, just a political one and one sided at
that. Nobody cross examines the witnesses because Nancy stacked the
committee with hand picked Trump haters. The defendant is not
represented in this witch hunt in any way. Nancy refused to let anyone
who wasn't trying to hang Trump participate so of course the
"testimony" sounds compelling. Papa Joe Stalin would approve of their
methods. It was how he kept power for 30 years until his death.

I guess they don't understand the concept of the 6th amendment.

In a real court most of this gossip would be tossed to the curb.

I'd be OK with letting Trump fade away into some sort of Nixon-like obscurity but unfortunately that runs counter to everything we know about his personality. I'd start by trying to convict some of his close supporters and see where that goes. Surely
some of them would be willing to flip on Trump in order to get a reduction in prison time. Armed with that, it might be possible to convince Trump that he was the next dominoe to fall unless he agreed to recant his stolen election claims and totally
    leave politics.

It's more complicated than that, much more. Trump is still a folk hero who can do no wrong to some significant percentage of the population. He needs to publicly recant some of his bull shit and fade away.

The Democrats have been looking for a crime for almost 6 years. Not
gossip, something that will make it through a trial and an appeal or
two. So far it really sounds like their best chance is a civil
financial irregularity that will just be a fine.

Biden was confirmed as POTUS. Trump moved out
    of the White House.

Seems to me that Congress (and voters) have much more
important issues to deal with right now. The USA
is heading towards 3rd world status unless some
changes are made. Biden, although duly elected has
proven to be inept and totally unqualified to lead
    the nation.

    ===

I'd be OK with letting Trump fade away into some sort of Nixon-like obscurity but unfortunately that runs counter to everything we know about his personality. I'd start by trying to convict some of his close supporters and see where that goes.
Surely some of them would be willing to flip on Trump in order to get a reduction in prison time. Armed with that, it might be possible to convince Trump that he was the next dominoe to fall unless he agreed to recant his stolen election claims and
    totally leave politics.

You guys are much too forgiving. That's why the same crap keeps going on.

If you do the crime...you do the time.
If he's committed a crime, then he should do the time. However, that's
    a big 'if'.

    ===

I don't think there's any "if" at all. There's a long list to choose from if the DOJ decides to go ahead.

    That's where the "if" is.

Depends on where you are. In New Yowk or Kalifonyia you'd likely
get the keys to the city. In New London you'd probably be elected
Mayor. In Fat Harry's mind you're a hero.

Has Fat Harry checked his credit score lately? I'll bet it's

Same with like Maxine Waters egging on rioters in Minneapolis, etc. also, let’s require ID for voting! Don’t tell me most people of color can’t get
an ID, or don’t have an ID. Is required for lots of welfare stuff, like Medicaid. So most have ID, and if they are so far out of society, they probably are not voting unless someone gives them cigarettes to vote.

    That's where the "if" is.
The DoJ is pretty careful not to bring charges they can't get a
conviction on. We will see. My bet is they appease people like you and
Harry with a civil beef that results in a fine and that will be the
    end of it.

The chances of the insurrection conviction you covet so badly are up
around the mega million ticket I have

Witness tampering might be the most serious and provable charge at the moment. Conspiracy to commit sedition might be right up there however.

Sedition is overt conduct, such as speech and organization, that tends toward rebellion against the established order. Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent toward, or insurrection against, established
    authority. - Wikipedia
There is always the next great orange killing hope. I stand by my
prediction. He might even plead to a misdemeanor. There won't be a
14th amendment p(3) conviction and he won't go to jail.
The blow back won't be worth it. If Putin had a plot, this is it.

I agree that there probably won't be any jail time but there needs to be a credible threat of that.

Will you also agree this is just a witch hunt to try to bar or simply
scare Trump into not running again?

How is this different than the Soviet politburo hand picking the
candidates that were able to run in their "free elections"?

At the end of the day, shouldn't that be up to the voters?

It is telling that this "investigation" into Jan 6 seems to only be
focused on how to blame this all on Trump without even some lip
service into the security failures that let this happen.
I bet ISIS is watching. It occurs to me that a few dozen well armed
and trained operatives could walk in and kill half of the Congress
based on what a couple hundred unarmed protestors were able to do.
To start with, they wouldn't give the Cap Po a month's notice they
    were coming.

Not sure it rises to the level of criminal liability but
confirms in my mind that Trump should retire from
politics and just play golf in Jupiter, FL.

Some are out for blood and won't stop until they
draw some. But when you step back for a minute
    and consider the bigger picture,
the alleged "insurrection" failed (or simply didn't
    happen).

The Republic withstood the challenge. Pence was not
hung. Nobody was killed other than the protester
    shot by Capital Police.

Biden was confirmed as POTUS. Trump moved out
    of the White House.

Seems to me that Congress (and voters) have much more
important issues to deal with right now. The USA
is heading towards 3rd world status unless some
changes are made. Biden, although duly elected has
proven to be inept and totally unqualified to lead
    the nation.

She wasn't a "protester." She was a rioter. Trump caused her death.

Yeah, let's just forget the ongoing coup. Fuck you asshole.
