Just a few minutes ago we saw a bird that very closely resembles a
Nuthatch ... except for the very bright yellow patch on it's throat .
First time sighting , Audubon Arkansas website was no help , my small
bird book was no help ... and I have no idea where to start in the Big
Bird Book . Any ideas where to start the search ?

There are several Nuthatches, and at least one the Red-breasted Nuthatch, notably the female, has a yellow throat patch. Another possible candidate might be a Black-capped Chickadee

We don’t see those at all here in California. It seems that its Summer range is very much Eastern, & South-Eastern US, and you were fortunate to see one in Arkansas.

This is a first-sighting for us . We hope it comes back for an encore
, I'll have my camera ready . The feeder on the south side of the house
is right where my wife can watch it from her recliner - not an accident
. She was the first to see it , and called me to see . She also spotted
the first female hummingbird today ...

Yes, those are very pretty! I had a few of those around in the last
couple of months. They seem to have moved on, though. :(

Hey Terry, I read this post yesterday and saw a Yellow Throated Warbler
in the bird bath this morning! :) I thought they'd moved on (northward migration) since I haven't seen one in a couple of months. Of course I couldn't grab the camera fast enough...
