• First Hummer!

From jmcquown@21:1/5 to All on Wed Mar 31 18:17:25 2021
Sorry, no pics. I hung the hummingbird feeder last month because I
thought I'd caught a glimpse of an eary bird. I kept watch but no go.

I sort of forgot about it. I also neglected to immediately make another
batch of sugar water and store it in the refrigerator.

I just now saw a male ruby-throat land at the feeder and take a sip. I
was thrilled! Then I thought, oh man, that sugar water is old. :(

I hopped up to make another batch. I put the sugar in the mason jar and
heat the water in a glass measuring cup in the microwave, then simply
pour the hot water into the jar and stir it to blend in the sugar.
Normally I'd have done this right after I filled the feeder. Oops.

In this case, I'd like to be able to refill the feeder before the sun
starts to go down. I'll put it in the freezer for about 5 minutes. I
don't want the word spreading amongst the hummingbirds "Don't go to that feeder, that stuff is old and doesn't taste very good." LOL

I'm thilled to see the first one of the year. :)
