• Something Dreadfully Wrong

From Tom Kunich@21:1/5 to All on Wed Oct 18 07:38:41 2023
I think that I mentioned that I had what appears to be some funny insect bite on my stomach that seems to have happened in the process of trying to fix the flat last Thursday.

I didn't feel anything when it occurred but it has been getting worse to the point now where it is hitting 10 on the pain scale and I could not sleep last night without pain killers and laying just correctly.

At 8 am I'll go up to the Emergency Room since it will not doubt require X-rays, I can't ride like this so something has to be done and rapidly.

I have found benzoyl peroxide (zit cream) very helpful for
mosquito bites. You might try that while you're waiting.

An ER or Urgent Care visit is where you should go.
Ask if it might be an epigastric hernia: <https://www.google.com/search?q=epigastric+%28stomach+area%29+hernia>

This sounds much like your previous description: <https://www.healthline.com/health/epigastric-hernia>

Best of luck and I hope things go well for you.

    I wonder if it's shingles. I haven't had that (I've gotten vaccinated,
of course) but several friends have suffered horribly. It starts as a
weird rash and gets very, very painful.

Yes, but it takes a week or more to begin working to the point where the pain comes down to a reasonable level. Remember the Flu vaccines. It was the extremely rare flu vaccine that actually worked. Since I stopped getting the flu vaccines I've gotten
the flu once and it was very short lived.

By the way - it is shingles that I have. I suppose it's lucky I have it in a more or less harmless location if you could call this sort of pain harmless. I'm developing a theory that Sciatica may actually be otherwise symptomless Shingles. The levels of
pain appear to be the same and they both go away eventually untreated.

Consult an MD not RBT for a better answer but sciatica is
usually caused by vertebrae/discs pressing on the sciatic nerve.

An education does not fix stupidity...

It’s hard to wrap your mind around: The social justice warriors on
college campuses around America have come out in support of terrorists
who last weekend raped and murdered and beheaded innocent people
(including children, women and the elderly) in Israel.

These are the same students who need safe spaces from those who may
talk about race or gender in a way they find offensive, or who will
shout down and demand the cancellation of speakers with whom they
    disagree.

An education does not offet personality problems, either.

A person with overt (grandiose) narcissism might:

draw attention to their abilities by talking up accomplishments
frequently share how much others appreciate them
    request special treatment
react with angry outbursts when feeling dismissed or ignored
openly reject or treat others with contempt

It's been two days now and I have been unable to sleep much. I have the anti-viral medication and hope for that to work but it takes a week or more and right now it feels like I'm being stabbed in the stomach with a large knife.

My riding buddy says that the medication worked for his wife in 10 days but others tell me of their parents having it for years. Yee Gods, I don't know how you would ever handle that. Funny thing is that anti-viral medication was developed as an off-
shoot of the hunt for a cure for AIDS.

I got shingles at an unusually early age, 30. My experience was not that bad: altho the pain and the whole concept were both more than a little scary, there was only one night or maybe two when the pain - which was mostly in my biceps and triceps - was
bad, and at no time was it excruciating, but was quite annoying for a couple weeks. And would not respond to aspirin or Tylenol or Advil. But did abate nicely after 3-4 beers. I remember being annoyed that it wasn't gone in no two weeks, but also
relieved that it didn't hang out anywhere near forever - not months or years. I think it must've been 4-6 weeks. The Doc credited the Zostrex.

I got it a day after hiking the 12 mile trail on kauai back out in one day. Meh. The doc said you totally wore yourself out and your immune system was low. But I Dunno; it wasn't all-that- hard, just a long day, and so I can't help but wonder if it
was in the water in the swimming hole that you weren't supposed to enter if you have an open cut, as there is leptospirosis. But the doc said noop.

    Good luck with that.

    antivirals for varicella zoster
Yes, but it takes a week or more to begin working to the point where the pain comes down to a reasonable level. Remember the Flu vaccines. It was the extremely rare flu vaccine that actually worked. Since I stopped getting the flu vaccines I've
gotten the flu once and it was very short lived.
    Different virus group.

My daughter suffered shingles ten years ago and had no idea
what was causing the intense pain. She had relief in a day
    or two.

But I Dunno; it wasn't all-that- hard, just a long day, and so I can't help but wonder if it was
in the water in the swimming hole that you weren't supposed to enter if you have an open cut, as there is leptospirosis. But the doc said noop.

    Good luck with that.

The pain is bad enough that I don't get more than 5 hours of sleep and none of that is deep sleep all involved in trying to hold a position with the least pain.
