the middle of the weight range for comparable pneumatic tires."

Well, I'm using Grand Prix 5000 S TR black/28-622 (700x28C) on our new
bikes, currently priced 55 € here in Germany, weighting 295 g each.
    32-622 (700x32C) would be 320 g.

Essentially bit like, the year of the Linux desktop, bikes have airless
tires and chain replacements which never quite get mainstream for various reasons.

For airless tires it’s ride quality or lack of that they always fail on.

Every time you see "lasts the life of the xyz" you need to be very wary.

"The timing chain lasts the life of the car." Well actually, when the
timing chain broke, "the car lasted the life of the timing chain" (a
defunct U.S. car brand made a big deal of using a chain rather than a
belt, but their timing chain system was poorly designed and they
experienced a lot of timing chains breaking).

I saw those tires at Sea Otter. Yet another attempt at airless tires
that will almost certainly fail given the drawbacks and the cost.

That's why the new venture to produce those tyres is financed by a Kickstarter* so that the experiment is paid for by starry-eyed cyclists aka naifs who believe in global warming and products that last forever. See:

Well, it's a big world with divergent opinions among
cyclists so good luck to them. I can't imagine anything more
perfect than a 300g tubular. And certainly nothing under
    $30 can come close.

I re\ad that article this morning while waiting for the Vuelta to start. They made VERY light of traction and that plastic hose in which the memory metal is being carried has no traction and you have to place a traction surface over the outside of it. I
would be worried about the traction surface slipping.

They are very stiff in "give" and hence retain a round surface. I couldn't say if that is good or bad since it would be impossible for that sort of technology not to give some.

In general the stiffer the sidewall the less comfortable hence stuff like Marathon Plus have a wooden ride.

Or MTB a XC tire will give a nicer and faster ride with a less supportive sidewalls.

Yes, and in the 1970s there were Carefree Airless Urethane
