We just completed our annual Williams Trophy contest in Parowan (named after the legendary Pete Williams). This is a starkly different kind of contest where scores are based on four OLC scores: OLC Plus, OLC League (speed), OLC distance, and OLC FAI
triangle. Each task has a top score of 1000 points, so the best total score possible is 4000. It is unique from most other contests in that you can fly as few as four days and win it (this has been done), because these tasks use just one day of your
flights (no flight can be used for more than one task). I have developed scoring software that transfers the data from an OLC Excel download and optimizes the selection of flights for each task (this turns out to be a complex optimization process). The
Auxiliary-powered Sailplane Association (ASA) will make this software available to other clubs and organizations if they want to run a Williams Trophy contest of their own.
