• Data Plate exemption

From Alex Zobell@21:1/5 to All on Wed Jan 18 16:06:33 2023
It's been a long time since this was discussed, but it appears that the SSA Data plate exemption expired in 2011. Has something changed that the exemption is no longer required or are all of us not in compliance with the data plates in our respective
ships located in the cockpit instead of underneath the horizontal stabilizer.

As posted by the SSA Government Liaison Committee 3/11/2010:

The glider data plate exemption will be permanent effective April 14, 2010.

This means that you will no longer be required to carry the data plate exemption paperwork in your glider if you do not have an external data plate.

FAR 45.11 "Marking of Products" has been revised with an effective date of April 14, 2010, paragraph h states:

(h)Gliders. Paragraphs (a)(3) and (e) of this section do not apply to gliders.
