• Grob 103 canopy seal source?

From x27325@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jul 18 15:21:45 2022
Does anyone know where to purchase a replacement rubber cockpit seal that is fitted to the fiberglass flange on the fuselage of a Grob 103? It has a thin channel that seats on the fuselage fiberglass, attached to a hollow round piece of rubber that
provides a cushion and seal when the canopy closes. I don't see it available at any of the online glider supply houses. Is it something that is possibly found at a non-aviation related source?

    Thanks!

There is no magic to the seals … no expensive aviation parts … you just have to match it with the right style and size seals as often used in the classic car industry. Here’s an example from a supplier in Canada. He says just bring it in and he’
ll match the profile and sells by the yard. Similar suppliers in whatever country you are in would do likewise.

Alternatively, you can just buy this stuff from Amazon! Just carefully match the profile and size. You need the diameter of the bulb, and the thickness of the canopy flange it attaches too, etc. Once you get used to the lingo (vertical bulb, side bulb,
edge thickness, etc.) it is easy to find. Here is an example …

Thanks for the info, huge help. That link to Amazon looks like exactly what I need.

Make sure you get an accurate measurement of the thickness of the canopy rail, the depth of the existing edging and the diameter of the bulb. They would have been metric originally so you will have to take what is close. Also pay attention to the ratings.
Some of the stuff being sold is crap and won’t last long.

The Trim-Lok seals also are a good replacement for the front hatch seal on Cobras and Avionic trailers; again, measurement is critical.
