• New Variometer

From John Foster@21:1/5 to All on Sat Jul 2 21:27:43 2022
Does anyone know if there is an equivalent to the LX Nav S3, but in 80mm diameter? I'm not interested in spending $800 to $1000 on a new variometer. And I'm not interested in getting a "filler plate" to fill the gap of the 80mm hole in order to mount a
57mm instrument. I'm looking to replace an old Cambridge unit that has given up the ghost.

I believe that would be the S80.

I will be replacing my S80 with new vario in about one month.
    Works perfectly. I am upgrading.
    Make me an offer?

How do I reach you to make a private offer? There's no email link to your post.

Why can't I "reply to author" on this site?

NNTP is not a mail or messaging protocol.

It is just a large collection of message boards - rec.aviation.soaring
being one of them - that anybody can post messages on. The nearest you can
get to posting a reply is to append a message to an existing message and
hope that the original poster will see your response.

That said, any poster can include their e-mail address as part of a
message they post, in which case you can use that to send them an e-mail,
but there's nothing that says a posted HAS to include their address in
    anything they post.

Unless I'm mistaken, I just looked and both of you have your email addresses posted as members of the US SSA. I could publish both here if you want, but the database is easily accessible. Now you're making me feel so techno-woke.

If you set up a news reader in an email client like Thunderbird, you can
reply to the author of a message on RAS. I can see the emails of every
poster just as I see the return address in an email.

I sent you an email using your email from the SSA website.

Probably because the person who posted the message didn't provide a valid e-mail address. I use the Pan newsreader, which has a "Reply to Author in
Mail" button which can be used to send an e-mail to the OP.

Pan implements that button works, by letting you write a response, and
then passing the completed message to my e-mail system for dispatch, but
if the author didn't supply a valid e-mail address, and there is nothing
in the NNTP specification that says they have to do that, then I'd expect
    the reply to bounce.

I'd expect any other newsreader to do something similar.

Well it used to work. Hasn't worked for years. Why doesn't it work?
Because you're using some crappy Google interface to try to read Usenet,
and they don't seem to care whether it works or not.

It works just fine for me, but then again I'm using a Usenet reader to
read a Usenet group. Funny thing is, it works better if you use the
proper tool for the job. If a screwdriver doesn't work well as a
hammer, you shouldn't complain about it.
