"Collisions were the leading cause of vehicle fires that resulted in
    death." Yeah no kidding.

If you've got a collision serious enough to rupture the gas tank, it's a
little hard to separate out whether the accident would have been
survivable without the fire. But we'll just make it sound like gasoline
was the root cause of the fatality, right? How about being honest and
saying the collision was the cause?

A collision can also crush a battery pack, which will trigger a thermal runaway.

It frequently does, but anytime you store large amounts of energy in an environment subject to catastrophic physical damage, you can get that
    sort of reaction.

What makes me nervous about electric gliders is they can also catch fire
while being charged, while being discharged, and even when just being
stored. We all know gasoline is dangerous, but it's more predictable.

Gasoline does not suffer from thermal runaway and never will. The failure mechanisms of lithium batteries are well understood by scientists involved in their development, but are completely whitewashed by those marketing them to an unsuspecting public. I
have shown, at Eric's request, how EASA is dealing with the battery issue: completely washing their hands of the dangers.
