Pilots Flying in 2022 US FAI-Class Nationals and other Interested Parties,

The following materials covering Rules for FAI-Class Nationals are now posted at the Contest Rules and Process Section of members.ssa.org. These documents apply ONLY to FAI-Class Nationals being flown under the FAI Rules Waiver in 2022 (Standard, 15-
Meter, 18-Meter, 20-Meter, Open and Club). This is an extension of the waiver issued for the 2021 contest season.

    The documents are:

    1) “2022 SSA-FAI Rules 07Apr2022.pdf” - An integrated rules document incorporating all the changes authorized for FAI Nationals under waiver
    2) "[Compare Report] 2022SsaFaiRules-07Apr2022.pdf” - A redline comparison of the above rules with SSA Rules being used in 2022 for all other contests - so that all specific rules changes are more accessible.
    3) "2022 US Rules FAI National Waiver.pdf” - The waiver that authorizes use of the SSA-FAI Rules contained in the above-described rules document.
    4) “FAI Rules 2022 Summary” - A summary presentation for pilots outlining the changes and some advice on how to fly under the modified rules.

Hopefully everyone will find these to be useful references.

An update to the integrated FAI/SSA Rules Document has been posted to the Contest Rules and Process section of members.ssa.org. It includes three changes to improve clarity and correct typographical errors:

    1) 10.3.3.2.4 - Wording corrected to reflect that for an outlanding the pilot is given credit for distance achieved to the point of greatest progress prior to retreating to a suitable landing place.
    2) 10.6.1 - Deleted. Multiple task attempts are permitted. This paragraph conflicted with paragraph 10.10.1 which is the controlling language.
    3) 10.4.3.5 - Turnpoint miss distance expressed in km rather than sm for clarity.
