What were the recommended newsreader programs to filter junk?
Over 1000 entries of junk in the last few days.

other characteristics of the spam. Sarah Anderson has written at least
two very good descriptions of how to implement RAS via a news reader.

Thunderbird does the news reading. You can also use the NewsTapLite app (from the Apple
App store), which works nicely, but just on an iPhone/iPad.
