• upload waypoints into LX5000?

From Moshe Braner@21:1/5 to All on Sun Oct 22 18:27:15 2023
A friend bought a glider with an LX5000. To make it useful beyond being
a vario, he needs to load the local waypoints into it. This ancient
device has no SD card slot. But it does have a serial cable for
connection to a PC. Do I need the LXE program on the PC to talk to it?
I installed LXE, it starts, but refuses to fully open since, it says, an "airspace and airports" database is "not installed". Downloaded ASAPT_E17_setup.exe and ran that, it installed some files in
lxnavigation\asapt - but LXE still says no database. Note: I didn't
actually run the database EXE on the same PC, rather on another one and
copied the files over - is that the problem? I installed LXE on a very
old laptop (Windows 98!) because it has a serial port. But the ASAPT_E17_setup.exe refuses to run on that ancient laptop.

I had one of those nightmare LX5- or7000 devices (it came in my Stemme)
and, after some kind soul on this board helped me load a "starter
database" which I don't think is available any more, I decided it was
better used as a boat anchor... in salt water.

Get a good quality USB to serial adapter and run that program on a more
modern computer. Better yet, toss that thing and replace it with an
Android device running XCSoar or similar. You won't regret that!
