Any followup on this fairly recent incident? (other than the pilot
    buying lots of lottery tickets)

I'm not sure why this is described as an accident.
Best guess, without more info, is that there was flutter, likely rudder, that caused fuselage damage.
I've repaired another ship that had a similar event that was caused by improperly tensioned rudder cables (rudder was free to move 2 inches with pedals held solid, and rudder that was not mass balanced. Damage was torsional failure at the base of the fin.

I always thought it was Old Bob The Pontificater but others say with Bob and his

The "accident" may have occurred on a previous flight, or perhaps while being trailered, rigged, or even from improper ground handling. I wonder what his speed was when he deployed the spoilers, and why he used spoilers instead of slowly pitching up to
slow down. And incredibly, his choice to induce the vibration again seems like really bad judgement. I would've broadcast what happened, that I may have a control or structural problem, and I'm going to descend slowly, then land as smoothly as I can,
with very little spoiler use. "Be ready to rescue me".

Substantial damage occurred inflight - somehow - which makes it an reportable "accident" by NTSB 830. Agreed there has to be more to the story...

The one at the Soaring Club of Houston was staight and level cruising flight about 60 miles west of SCOH. Fortunately the pilot was able to make it back and land at SCOH. The tail boom had fractures and the vertical wobbled side to side with a light push.

The speeds shown by Flightaware are astounding. Any idea why it's showing the speeds it does?
