From Gliding and Soaring on FB. " Pietro Filippini yesterday was involved in an important accident when the cable of a towing plane struck the fusolage of Pietro’s plane and tangled around the glider blocking elevators. These happened while
performing his last competition and he WAS IN THE BOX. Pietro was able to bail out without major consequences. "

Yesterday evening, during the World Glider Aerobatic Championships,
there was an accident involving the MDM-1 Solo Fox glider with side
numbers SP-8000. During the last phase of towing and preparation for the bundle, the glider flew into the line of the towing aircraft. This
caused damage to the tail empennage, the towing cable became
disconnected from the aircraft's tail. The 73-year-old Italian pilot
jettisoned the canopy and parachuted down, uninjured.

The FB page (see the link above) also has a video with the accident
glider falling down. I'm surprised to see how much vertical and little
side movement there is in the fall.

Correct me if I'm wrong in my interpretation. Pietro Filippini was in the glider on aerotow. He released from the tow. The rope wrapped around his elevator. The tow pilot released the towplane end of the rope.

In Poland, what flight paths do the glider and towplane usually take after the glider pilot releases from the tow rope? How long was the towrope?

Could this accident happen in the US provided the towplane went down and left, and the glider went up and right after the glider pilot released?
