Russia Cancels Its Own LCS Program: Project 20386 Corvettes
The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) is cancelling the production of
the Project 20386 stealth corvettes. This project is often referred as
as Russia's own Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).

The claim is based on a defense industry source who spoke with local
news agency TASS and stated that there are no plans to produce
additional Project 20386 ships in their current form.

“Severnaya Verf and the Amur Shipbuilding Plant will continue serial production of ships from Project 20380 and Project 20385,” the source said.

In this case, the Derzky, the lead ship of the Project 20386 class, will
remain the sole vessel of its class.

On May 31, Russian media outlet RIA Novosti reported that the ship’s
design would be changed. RIA Novosti claimed that the Project 20386
corvette would be redesigned to further develop the innovative solutions implemented on that ship. The main purpose of the redesign, he said, is
to introduce a modular armament principle and the possibility of using
drones, similar to the U.S. Navy’s Littoral Combat Ships.

The source of Ria Novosty stressed that the project is not stopped: “The project is underway, but it shifts to the right for the period necessary
for the redesign. The additional elaboration of a number of adopted
innovative solutions that will be implemented on this ship was necessary.“

Just a couple months later, TASS reported the cancellation of the
    project contrary to Ria Novosti.

of containers, similar in concept to the U.S. Navy’s LCS mission modules.
The Project 20386 corvette, also known as the Derzky-class corvette, is
a new class of corvettes being developed for the Russian Navy. The
project aims to create a modern and versatile warship that can operate effectively in various roles thanks to their high level of modularity.
Like the American LCS, it features modular mission bays.

The corvette incorporates stealth technology, including reduced radar cross-section and infrared signatures, to enhance its survivability and
reduce detectability. The corvette is designed to perform multiple
roles, such as engaging surface targets with guided missiles, detecting
and engaging submarines with torpedoes and anti-submarine warfare
systems, and conducting patrol and surveillance missions.

The corvettes has a displacement of 3400 tons and a length of 109 meters
and will be armed with a 100-mm A-190-01 artillery system, two 30-mm
CIWS AK 630M and the Redut air defense system. The corvettes will also
have two launchers for the NK Anti-Submarine Warfare package and be
capable of launching Kalibr cruise missiles. The Ka-27 or Ka-29
helicopter can also be deployed on the corvette.

Project 20386 multipurpose corvettes were developed at the Almaz Central
Design Office. They are designed for conducting combat operations in
coastal waters and open seas, protecting sea lanes and objects of
    maritime interests.
