AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) - NASCAR’s most popular driver is now a Cup
champion. Chase Elliott took the torch from teammate Jimmie Johnson by
winning his first Cup title, driving from the back of the field to
victory lane at Phoenix Raceway. The win for Hendrick Motorsports and
Chevrolet was the first since Johnson, who retired after the race, won
his seventh and final crown in 2016. Elliott’s car failed pre-race
inspection and the penalty cost him the pole when he was sent to the
rear. But he raced his way through traffic in the first stage and then
    took control of the championship.

Aside from the occasion of Elliots passing the torch from one generation to another, it is interesting how a Hendrick machine, banished to the back of the pack for failing inspection, somehow makes it back to the front of pack,
winning both the final 2020 Cup race and the Championship.

    OK, interesting.
Chase Elliot does have some history of being fast
    at Phoenix.
In 2018 Nov race he was 2nd in Qualifying, and won
    the first stage.
In 2019 he was fastest at the final practice and finished 2nd
in the first stage, 3rd in the second stage.

    Yes.
The K-man is convinced that NASCAR is totally
corrupt to create wins for Hendrick Motorsports.
    I do not see it.
Chevrolet has had quite a few 'down' years.
