Hi y'all. I was outside yesterday and noticed a small puddle under
the bug near the back kinda closer to the passenger side than the
driver's side. Today I was outside had gotten back from driving the
bug around some. It had been parked maybe an hour or so. I noticed
another puddle. I looked more closely. It's leaking fluid from the
boot that covers where the passenger side drive axle meets the um...differential. Know where I'm talking about? What does the
differential use for fluid? I'm 100% in the dark about the inner
workings of the transmission/differential on a bug. Does it somehow
use some of the motor oil I add to the engine? Or do I fill it up separately, and if so what do I use to fill it up? Regular motor oil
or...? The bug has been astonishing a lot of people recently with its offroad capabilities but I'm afraid this is a side effect of some of
that abuse. How do I fix this leak? Is it doable in my driveway or
should I take it to a shop? Need any special tools? Web page for the procedure on how to fix something like this? As of today we put the
house back up on the market so we can get a house with a garage...
How long can I keep adding fluid every couple of days and not have
this become more expensive to fix? I'd appreciate any and all
suggestions except "keep it on the road." ;-) Thanks!
