A man attempting to break into cars at a North Side apartment complex
was shot multiple times by a resident, according to police.

The incident happened around 4 a.m. Thursday at the Roots at O'Connor Apartments in the 5000 block of N. Loop 1604 E.

Police said a man, 24, was inside his apartment when he saw another man,
23, pulling on car handles in the parking lot. The resident went
downstairs and confronted the man and was threatened, prompting him to
pull out a gun, police said.

The resident fired his handgun multiple times, shooting the other man in
the shoulder, back and buttocks, police said.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

It's not clear if the resident will face any charges.
