Let's assume Hamilton wins the WDC this weekend.

Wouldn't it be nice to see him deliberately qualify way down the field
in the next few races so he can have a bit of fun in carving through the
    field?

Or would that just be a little too egotistical?

    Yes!!
That (called "sandbagging") should not be done.
It is way too egotistical and dangerous.

Other drivers are concentrating on running their
races to the best of their ability.  Their results
will have a major impact on their futures and
careers.  Having to be wary, or inconvenience themselves
for someone else's "fun" is NOT proper.

Having to start from the back sometimes happens.
But it always adds an extra risk, and someone doing it
on purpose is reckless and dangerous and generally
    condemned.

Every pass has risks and concerns.
Throwing 19 extra ones into a race is a silly risk.

Here are 3 videos that show lots of passing from
    improper grids.
Go ahead and count the near disasters.

I was in that race, driving one of my slower cars.
The driver of the 'camera car' is a friend, and a
very good driver. But, he did take some silly risks.
And count the number of other people trying to do their
their own races races that he frightened and got in way of.

IRDC car tender Group 6 race June 14 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEWy1fmWjes&t=6s
Here is one, that pictures both Alan Baker and myself.
The grid was screwed up by miscommunication about
the time to start the race (so most showed up
AFTER the 5 min warning & got gridded by when arrived.)
I have regrets that I was interesting in winning the
race, and did a pass, and another driver did not
see me in time and ran into me and badly damaged his car.
(Steward ruled it was his fault.)
And by the way, Alan Baker was flawless.

This is from a car just like mine at Sir Tim's favorite track.
Just count the near misses on the first lap!
I admit, it is 'exciting', but these are real blood
and flesh bodies that can get broken, and expensive to
    fix cars when damaged.

Real racing is not a video game!!!

Thank you, sir! Just see the faster cars coming and drive a consistent
line that leaves a little space, I say. ;-)

That was a very "exciting" moment. I had a front row seat to see the
collision and to watch that FC go backwards up the hill (where, very fortunately, the driver was unhurt).

    Amen.

Once you've got a little experience, you learn about when the faster
classes will start to come through and lap you, but by then, the cars
are strung out somewhat, giving everyone more opportunities to avoid
problems. At my track, we've had a couple of different drivers of faster
cars who would somehow just miss the 5 minute warning at pre-grid so
they would be "forced" to start from the back. While I understand their
desire for some fun, and while it no longer bothers me very much, it was something I could have done without while I was in rookie season.
