• Sprint races?

So now that the Brazil sprint race is over what does everyone think of the format and should it continue?

    I still like it.

I've not been a fan but must admit that I've warmed to it after watching today's instance. On the other hand how often is one likely to see the
fastest guy starting at the back on a track where overtaking is possible?

Not that it matters what *we* think, since expanding the practice in
2022 has already been decided. The target demographic (not us) has spoken.

And if that keeps F1 going, I'm all for satisfying the target demographic.

One of the things about the main event is and always has been that there
is an element of playing "the long game".

The sprint is much more immediate.

I guess the question is: do I like it enough to do only sprint qualifying?

And to that my answer is no.

It was good, I enjoyed it too.

I liked the little radio chat between Toto and Lewis on the cool-down lap.

    Lewis:
    "Copy. It's not over yet."

I think it's entertaining, certainly more than a free practice session.

Personally, I do not like the sprint race idea for setting the
    qualifying grid.

    Cheers

I liked the race, but not what it stood for. As another race to watch,
it was very entertaining, some real seat-of-the-pants stuff. But having
it decide starting positions for today, however, is a contrivance that I dislike, based on unsound logic.

If the sprint is to be used because racing should decide starting
positions, then just scrap one-lap quali, it's no longer needed.
You can start the sprint with last race's final positions. However,
at that point, you can scrap the sprint, as you can just start the
next race based on the previous race's final positions.

The sprint disproves its own worth.

Looks to me that a procession would be the order of the day for the
most part under the current regs. Fingers crossed next years regs allow
for mor racing in which case the format may have legs.

I am currently living in temporary quarters and don’t have access to Sky F1 so I’m not really qualified to comment but, from what I *have* seen I don’t think that the sprint race adds much to the weekend. Hopefully the new regs will make the actual race more exciting without the need for gimmicks (but don’t hold your breath).
