I used to think I knew a reasonable answer.
Then I saw an engine block, where a piston
went out the side, through the cylinder wall,
water jacket, and exterior,
get 'repaired' by an excellent welder.
By the way, did you know there are now more
Lotus 19s, than were ever built? !!
