Why did Mercedes go for tyre change to mediums so early?
    Er, they didn't?
They actually went from mediums to hards.

They shadowed Max; changing from Medium to Hard.

It was the best strategy avoiding a possible undercut.

They changed from mediums to hard in reaction to Red Bull.

Seemed a bit strange to go so early but it was mentioned later that
Pirelli said the hards had a life of 50 laps.

Overall this year, I think that in terms of driver skills, Ham had the
edge over Ver but Red Bull had it on strategy.

OK, really I should have said "from" rather than "to" but I would have
thought it was rather obvious what I meant.

I think Lewis had a better winning-from-behind attitude. Ditto the
team (and if anything, Lewis had it because the team had it).
I don't think Max and RB got the best from their bad days. Merc
eked points out on the bad days better.

However, Merc's strategy was utter pants a few times. I do remember
thinking "this is obvious lunacy, ... unless it's genious ..., oh,
no, it's lunacy" at several of their decisions this season. The funny
thing is that some of the time I could work out the "unless" genious
component which had obviously caused them to make that decision. But
if it requires 8-dimensional hyper-draughts to win a race, it's probably
    a bad strategy.
