Colin, Ken, Max and now Frank all gone. Only Bernie and Ron Dennis left now from that generation of team principals.

I hope the Williams name is preserved in the team, but sadly fear it won't now with Frank's passing and recent ownership changes.

There's no telling what the current ownership might be thinking, but I note that McLaren's founding namesake passed away decades ago. Time will tell.

That same thought occured to me, but then the period through which McLaren's name has survived
is quite different to the period now where branding is everything.

    Sauber > Alfa Romeo
    Tyrell > Mercedes
    etc etc

And I don't think McLaren disappearing as the competitor name is out of the question
    at the moment either.

Other than their holding out (and onto) the winning fleet in the lobby,
the current Maccas have little to do with the legacy McLaren.

True, but the team entrant is still that same corporate body that has gone through various ownership cycles since Dennis.

Arguably, even the best "McLaren"s were more "Dennis" cars than having any McLaren dna in them.
