• Best Beatles Cover ?

From pallison49@gmail.com@21:1/5 to All on Thu Aug 12 22:33:39 2021
    Hi,

few cover versions exceed that of the original hit - the Jimi Hendrix cover of Bob Dylan's " All Along the Watchtower " being a rare exception.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmGFFJtkDXA

But this recent cover of " Nowhere Man " deserves an honorable mention in my book.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F2sn2rQiXo

    Small point:

The original had John and George playing the solo break in unison.
The Twins substituted a 12 string instead.
    Brilliant.

The Twins cover the Beatles VERY well. And, considering they're singing English as a second language, even more impressive.

Bugger. That must be a recent innovation as it worked fine the other
days without the Sign Up shit.

Fortunately I have downloaded both. The Abbey Road one is much lower resolution than what it was on YouTube before it got pulled.

The Queen one is still on YouTube, search < castellano bohemian > should
    find it.

I've popped them up on my Dropbox for a day or two, for whoever is interested.

Yeah so funny people can't tell the difference between a corrupt party dictatorship like Russia and China, and communism or socialism. If Trump

Yeah so funny people can't tell the difference between a corrupt party dictatorship like Russia and China, and communism or socialism.

They have a lot of heritage in common. IMO, it's important to understand
the basic mechanism - power vacuum - that creates corruption.

Putin has moved from catching one falling knife to catching another.
China? Form Maoism to some tribute-band version of capitalism.

    If Trump
had gotten his way USA would be under his dictatorship too.

Nah. The whole thing got away from Trump. There's "American Dharma", in
which Errol Morris grills Steve Bannon.

Being *elected* means it got away from Trump.

When the going gets tough, Bannon always says the same thing - "there's
going to be a revolution in this country."

In the harsh light of the arena , both Trump and Bannon were weighed and
found wanting. I for one am shocked it went as well as it did.

    Trump isn't a theoretical person. He's a performance-person. It's the
symbol completely overloading what the symbol represents.

American invented *two* things - prison and snake oil. Maybe basketball.

    Guess which one this is?

    And half the
population would be happy being like Russia and China as long as they
could say it wasn't communism by denying health care to the poor.

Gosh, I wish we could all just vote and make healthcare happen :) We are
so tangled up in ourselves with it.

Russian and Chinese elites and rulers have 90% of the wealth and all the power, just like in the USA though. And that's nothing new! LOL.

The elites are particularly impotent right now. There's only the wealth
left. I can noly tell you that for me, being more wealthy would mean
nothing. I'm most un-wealthy but if I were, there's nothing interesting
    I could do with it.

Meanwhile, technology continues apace, making wealth less and less relevant.

Except in the form of land. So there's this mad scramble for it, and it
will self-destruct. Or it won't. It remains to be seen.

Yeah so funny people can't tell the difference between a corrupt party dictatorship like Russia and China, and communism or socialism.
** Which Communist country is *not* a one party dictatorship ?
If Trump had gotten his way USA would be under his dictatorship too.
    ** ROTFL

    Wot fucking imbecile.

You all are waaaay overthinking this. "Communist" is just

Like when YouTube blocks access to a certain video, I'll

    Then threw a violent tantrum.

We all know what that is.

Maybe, although to be honest I think the best version ever was Brewer
and Shipley's. It is just eerie enough:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KajCpahZdHg

Although mind you I also can't stand Bob Dylan's "singing."

But this recent cover of " Nowhere Man " deserves an honorable mention in my book.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F2sn2rQiXo

It is pretty good. I don't like the processing on the vocals though it
might just be horrible lossy compression.

As Beatles covers go, this is the one that always gets stuck in my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFe0sc8XW94

** Think in trying to mimic the vocal sound on the Beatles version, it became over compressed and harsh.

As Beatles covers go, this is the one that always gets stuck in my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFe0sc8XW94

    ** Yep - a real "ear worm".
And a complete re-interpretation, as with the Hendrix version of Watchtower.

    FYI:

Brazil 66's first hit was " Mas Que Nada " sung in Spanish.
Only Lani Hall ( from Chicago) was able to learn the vocal part perfectly in the two weeks available after joining the band.
This meant the intended two girl vocal harmony could not be done.
So as not to waste the booked studio time, Lani was asked to double track her part.
Despite never having done that before, her second take was used on the recording.

To my ears, the same had been done with "Fool on the Hill".
Of course, the pair did in sing in harmony live.
