• Will we all be gay in 2054

From ScottW@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jul 9 18:37:25 2023
If something about the human race is changing at a previously unprecedented rate, we at least have to discuss it. Broken down over time, the LGBT population of America seems to be roughly doubling every generation… According to a recent Gallup poll,
less than 1% of Americans born before 1946 – that’s Joe Biden’s generation – identify that way, 2.6% of Boomers do, 4.2% of Gen X, 10.5% of Millennials and 20.8% of Gen Z, which means if we follow this trajectory, we will all be gay in 2054. I’
m just saying that when things change this much this fast, people are allowed to ask, ‘What’s up with that?’

    – Bill Maher, Real Time, May 2022And the truth shall set you free....

Social contagion is a phenomenon where behaviors, emotions or ideas spread rapidly and contagiously throughout a group of people, as they mimic each other for social acceptance, higher status or by submitting to herd mentality. Vulnerable children are
especially at risk of following harmful trends to appease their inner longing to belong. It is the process by which individuals adopt the attitudes, beliefs or behaviors of others within a social network, leading to a chain reaction that causes the
behavior to spread like a virus.

Social contagion can express itself through self-harm, such as the desire to mutilate one’s body because it’s fashionable to be a victim who hates one’s body. Also, an outcast from society suddenly receives special recognition and societal
protection by identifying as LGBT+. When an ‘odd’ person is bullied, it does not generate headlines, but if an LGBT+ child is bullied at school, everything is thrown at protecting that child and affirming the new identity. Thus, gender dysphoria
    becomes a passport to acceptance.

I recall someone performing some math a couple of years after Elvis
died. It was calculated that, by the year 2000, one in 7 males
(planet-wide) would be an Elvis impersonator.

    Didn't happen.

    **Which part is bullshit?

Please present your peer-reviewed data to disprove the IPCC science.

    I won't hold my breath.

Now, Arty, what I am going to tell you may be unpleasant, but it is
better that you understand and act accordingly.

You are not very smart. In fact, you are probably dumber than most
people. You should listen to the smart people and stop having any ideas
of your own, as they will, almost invariably, be completely wrong.

However, I'll play your silly game: Why do YOU think that YOU know more
than all the climate scientists who inform the IPCC?

A political party (let's call that party: The Republican Party) decides
that the REAL problems that afflict American society now and in the

**Yes, that has been going on for many years. It is, of course,
increasing in frequency, as the planet warms

We all kind of expected the tipping point to be rather dramatic but this is going to take a few millennia to play out.
    **Unlikely. More like decades.
    No matter....play out it will.
**I have little doubt about that.

But the real bottom line....the human effort to combat climate change is over.
**Possibly, but probably not. I accept what the majority of climate scientists have suggested - that 500ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere will be
the likely tipping point. If we can keep CO2 levels below that, then we
    have a chance.

    Nope....not even close.

“This is another methane source that has not been included so much in the models,” said the study’s lead author, Katrin Kohnert, a climate scientist at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany."

and since methane is 100 times more effective as a greenhouse gas it doesn't take much to overtake C02 as the dominant driver in rising temps.
Most scientists have focused on the short live human sources of methane (natural gas use and cow farts) assuming that reducing those emissions will limit impact as their short life of a few decades compared to the century long or more life of Co2 in the
    atmosphere.
But now the methane has created a renewal loop. It's adding enough warmth to continue if not accelerate warming which will lead to ever increasing releases of natural methane sources. So atmospheric methane levels are now on an increasing trajectory
that is not man made and cannot be controlled or reversed by man.
And the source of this methane is massive and won't ever be exhausted.

So we are officially f'd. Might as well start the party cuz 2099 is going to be really toasty.

We failed...as I told you we would.
**YOU told us? When was that and what did you say?

I told you on many occasions.
Starting with humanity having too much self-interest to do what is needed. Examples are exempting China and India.
Smaller scale are the climate "activists" and political schmucks like Kerry flying around on private jets.

If that didn't tell, the Paris accords surely should have. People have been touting that "accomplishment" which
was really on paper only as few countries actually met their goals and even worse...if they had it still wouldn't have
been close to what IPCC said was needed. It was a f'ing joke.
Methane release cannot be halted, reversed, or slowed.
**Well, that's not true at all.

How are you going to cap the melting permafrost?

It will be the dominate driver of further rises in global temps.
**Correct. Fortunately, methane has a short atmospheric life.

True but is only relevant to man made emissions which release can be controlled.
Natural emissions with a reinforcing feedback loop are a killer.

Unfortunately, methane breaks down into CO2, which has a very long atmospheric life.

Not directly and it's a really slow process. It actually breaks down into
CH3 and water first....from it takes a bunch of different reaction paths
    of varying length to Co2

No amount of "renewable energy" or e-car adoption or even halting Chinese construction of coal plants is going to
    change a damn thing.
    **Prove it.

It's your f'ing science Mr. Science guy. Methane is rising in the atmosphere while man caused emissions
are in decline. Now we've got a new source coming into the picture that potentially dwarfs the existing
swamp gas and cow farts and even natural gas escapes from drilling.

Do you need a "peer reviewed" paper to tell you how that's going to play out on planet earth?
I suppose you do....probably more than one.

The big one has begun. Melting permafrost has begun releasing massive amounts of methane
    from the arctic.

    Nope....not even close.

“This is another methane source that has not been included so much in the models,” said the study’s lead author, Katrin Kohnert, a climate scientist at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany."

**What source would that be? All the models I've examined look at
methane from ruminants, fugitive emissions from gas mining and
permafrost releases. Are there other significant sources that the
    modellers don't know about?

and since methane is 100 times more effective as a greenhouse gas it doesn't take much to overtake C02 as the dominant driver in rising temps.

**Again: I've told you this many, many times.

Most scientists have focused on the short live human sources of methane (natural gas use and cow farts) assuming that reducing those emissions will limit impact as their short life of a few decades compared to the century long or more life of Co2 in
    the atmosphere.

    **Points:

    * The problem with methane release from ruminants is belching, not
farting. That demonstrates your extreme ignorance in this matter.
    * The IPCC has focussed on a wide range of methane sources, including ruminants, permafrost releases and gas mining fugitive emissions.
    * Methane breaks down into CO2 after a decade or so.

But now the methane has created a renewal loop. It's adding enough warmth to continue if not accelerate warming which will lead to ever increasing releases of natural methane sources. So atmospheric methane levels are now on an increasing trajectory
that is not man made and cannot be controlled or reversed by man.

**Possibly. That is not certain. We should do as much as possible to
reduce CO2 emissions (and methane emissions) immediately and examine way
of removing CO2 from the atmosphere.

And the source of this methane is massive and won't ever be exhausted.

**Well, that's not true. That is just bullshit. EVERYTHING can be
exhausted. NOTHING is infinite. With the possible exception of the
    stupidity of Republican supporters.

So we are officially f'd. Might as well start the party cuz 2099 is going to be really toasty.

**So, you trust one, non-cited source? What does the IPCC say?

We failed...as I told you we would.
**YOU told us? When was that and what did you say?

I told you on many occasions.

**WHAT did you say and WHEN did you say it? Cite.

Starting with humanity having too much self-interest to do what is needed. Examples are exempting China and India.
Smaller scale are the climate "activists" and political schmucks like Kerry flying around on private jets.

**And Trump's private jet is OK? Can you spell hypocrisy?

If that didn't tell, the Paris accords surely should have. People have been touting that "accomplishment" which
was really on paper only as few countries actually met their goals and even worse...if they had it still wouldn't have
been close to what IPCC said was needed. It was a f'ing joke.

**I agree that MUCH more needs to be done and quickly.

Methane release cannot be halted, reversed, or slowed.
**Well, that's not true at all.

How are you going to cap the melting permafrost?

**By limiting human release of CO2 and methane immediately. Adding MORE
GHGs is not going to help. Had the world begun action back in the 1970s,
we would be in a much better place.

It will be the dominate driver of further rises in global temps.
**Correct. Fortunately, methane has a short atmospheric life.

True but is only relevant to man made emissions which release can be controlled.
Natural emissions with a reinforcing feedback loop are a killer.

**IF that positive feedback loop is significant, yes.

Unfortunately, methane breaks down into CO2, which has a very long
    atmospheric life.

Not directly and it's a really slow process.

**No, it is not. Methane is an unstable molecule. CO2 is not. Methane
breaks down in the atmosphere is as little as a decade or so. CO2
remains for more than 1,000 years.

    It actually breaks down into
CH3 and water first....from it takes a bunch of different reaction paths
    of varying length to Co2

**Sure. It's not linear and it's not instant. It also doesn't take
    thousands of years either.

No amount of "renewable energy" or e-car adoption or even halting Chinese construction of coal plants is going to
    change a damn thing.
    **Prove it.

It's your f'ing science Mr. Science guy.

**You made the claim. YOU fucking prove. Can't you spell 'fucking'? What
the fuck is wrong with you?

Methane is rising in the atmosphere while man caused emissions
    are in decline.

    **Are they?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas#/media/File:Major_greenhouse_gas_trends.png

Doesn't look like a downward trend to me.

Now we've got a new source coming into the picture that potentially
    dwarfs the existing
swamp gas and cow farts and even natural gas escapes from drilling.

**Once more for the scientifically challenged (namely: you): Ruminants
BELCH methane. Permafrost release of methane has been increasing for
decades. It is not new and it has been reported on and factored into
    IPCC calculations.

Do you need a "peer reviewed" paper to tell you how that's going to play out on planet earth?
I suppose you do....probably more than one.

**The peer-review process is the best method we have. I suppose your
reference is a 2,000 year book of dubious quality? I'll stick with
science and the peer-review process thanks.

Kind of makes your fixation on a few thousand gun deaths little more than a wedgie in the grand ass of humanity.
**You may care to note that I pointed out that YOUR fixation on
transgender issues is trivial, compared to 10,000 Americans who are shot
to death each and every year AND the big problems associated with global
    warming.

Read my fucking posts, your lying little shit-for-brains.

    Your?

**Yes, mine. I've been informing you about the dangers posed by human
release of CO2 and methane for at least a decade. Clearly, you have not
    paid any attention.

I see your a little rattled. Being exposed as a trivialist can do that
    to some people.

**Trivial is banging on about gays and transgender people, when 10,000 Americans are murdered each and every year, via gunshot, whilst the
political party YOU support claim that MORE guns are the solution. AND,
the same party you support has continually denied the problem of global warming. Now you appear to be concerned, but claim that humans are not
    the problem.
