    Toldja so!

Didja notice the right wing echo chamber in action?

The cost of storage is not news. From 2019:

    https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/2019/8/9/20767886/renewable-energy-storage-cost-electricity

"The basic result is that storage energy-capacity costs have to fall to
about $20 per kilowatt hour for a renewables+storage system to be cost competitive at the task of providing 100 percent of US energy.,,

Storage is rapidly evolving, diversifying, and falling in cost, to the
point that wind and solar power plants coupled with storage are
beginning to compete directly with fossil fuel power plants on cost.
That’s only going to accelerate as both renewables and storage get
cheaper. Providing all of US power, all day every day, will require
oversizing renewables and installing an enormous amount of storage, but
if they get cheap enough, that’s what we’ll do.

To put that more plainly: A US energy grid run entirely on renewable
energy (at least 95 percent of the time), leaning primarily on energy
storage to provide grid flexibility, may be more realistic, and closer
to hand, than conventional wisdom has it."

That's for 100% capacity. Accepting 95% is a lot cheaper.

For an update on how that's going, see Lazard's LCOE+ annual report.

    Meanwhile:

What numbers? It's back-of-the-envelope stuff. That "$600,000 per MWh"
isn't sourced and makes no sense compared to industry calculations:

    https://www.lazard.com/research-insights/2023-levelized-cost-of-energyplus/

See "Levelized Cost of Storage Comparison-Capacity ($/kW-year)" on p. 18
and "Levelized Cost of Storage Comparison-Energy ($/MWh)" on p. 19.

**There are several problems with that article. Clearly, the author is technically inept. Here are a couple of issues:

    * Solar PV can be quite effective, when used in many, low cloud areas of
the US. Transmission of electricity via HVDC systems results in losses
of less than 3% per 1,000km.
    * H2 can be effectively and safely stored and transported in the form of ammonia.
    * Molten salt energy systems operate very nicely, with built-in storage.
    * Geo-thermal energy can be economically employed in various parts of
the US and does not require storage.

    India doesn't.

    **Sure does:

    https://www.nationalheraldindia.com/india/india-economy-is-in-deep-trouble-sandp

That's about half the world population.

**And so is the other half. The war prosecuted by Trump/Putin is
inflicting huge damage into the planet's economy.

You're a fucking moron, if you imagine that the US is alone in
    suffering. EVERYONE is suffering.

How many trillions do you want to spend on a solution that we know is a failure
    even if implemented?
    **What solution would that be?

    Hello...McFly...are you awake?

**Perhaps you missed the question: What solution would that be?
