This relates to the capsule voice-coil wiring itself, not to the yellow/back/blue lead-out wires.
When replacing a dead cartridge I found the replacement to also be
open-circuit once fitted. On inspection it became clear that the yellow
tape covering and supposedly supporting the hair-thin voice-coil wire to
one terminal was not stuck down firmly the the pcb end-cap. This meant
that the slightest pressure on the tape fractured the wire off the
solder lug.
Fortunately I was able to recover enough wire to re-terminate it. I subsequently supported the tape/wire/lug area with hot-melt glue.
On checking another virgin capsule ex-factory, this was also not well
stuck down, and essentially floating free. This would make the wire
vulnerable to physical shock.
If anybody else doing a cartridge replacement on one of these I suggest
that the FIRST thing to do is to do the glue thing. And also to use
minimal iron temperature to solder, as the voice-coil wire itself can be inadvertently melted.
