LV, pointing to self-serving videos culled from self-serving sources only makes you look more and more pathetic. When you learn at least that, you will be taking your first step out of the depths of your ignorance. Unlikely you have that capacity,

However, you will always remain stupid. You will always remain entirely unencumbered by the thought process. Those conditions are immutable.

Whatever you say, Pete. You can believe all the
lies you want to; in time, propagandists like you
will be dealt with. And really, it's kinda cute,
you rolling out Ye Old We're Smarter Than You

there. We know how it works: You're smart because
you're Reds because you're smart because you're Reds
    because you're smart because you're Reds...yes indeed.
And if I were smart, I'd be a Red too, or maybe it's
if I were Red I'd be smart too. This is all so confusing...
whatever shall I do? I'm pretty sure of one thing, though...
I'd be pretty fuckin' stupid if I were to cuddle up to an
ideology which was responsible for 100,000,000+ deaths
during the 20th century, and continues apace in the 21st.
No, I think I and folks like me - there are quite a few of

time around. And this time around, we have all the guns.

We'll fuck you up, junior. Try us and see.

LV, once more, your ignorance, thoughtlessness and overall essential stupidity comes to the fore.

I would lay dollars to Krispy Kremes that I am:

    a) A better shot than you are with about any conventional firearm available to civilians. And I have the paper to support that.
    b) Better armed and with more 'useful' weapons than you. Probably fewer by count, but quality and suitability count for a great deal.

But, as you assume that being a liberal from the East makes one unfamiliar with firearms and weapons in general is the sort of thinking that keeps you trapped in your miasma of ignorance. Best of luck with that.

I am curious. How do you explain the fact that the sea level has risen over 400 feet in the 20,000 years prior to the industrial age and automobiles?
That's 24 inches per century, a rate that's twice as high as the average rise for the last 20 years.

I am not the least bit worried about changes over 50,000 years, even 5,000 years. What worries me are equivalent changes across less than 50 years.

I suggest you look up Paschal's Wager, and apply it to Climate Change - if you have the ability and courage to do so.

That's the point, which you just gloosed over. The climate is changing. It has been changing periodically since eternity. The changes over the last 50
years for many things are at the same or slower rate than the previous dozen millennea."SEA LEVEL RISING" is constantly brought up and harped on.
Coastal cities going under water is constantly mentioned in every discussion of climate. However, no one ever mentions that the sea level has risen
5000 inches in a mere 200 centuries, or that the coastal cities have been under water before many times. I can dig down 3' in my back yard and hit sea
shells. We can stop fossil fuels 100% and nothing will change. The sea will continue to rise, probably another 30' or so, then after a few thousand
years the earth will get colder again, ice ages will return, sea levels will drop, etc. If you want to worry aboout the earth and the environment,
you should be much more concerned about overpopulation and the deforestation of the planet, which are real problems humans caused and can stop.

What you glossed over was the concept of Paschal's Wager.

It is all of-a-piece. What we do as individuals and as a species are related, but not the same thing, necessarily. And as the drive of any given species is to 'make more of itself', with the concept of global self-interest having no place in that process,
to think globally is contrary to several million years' of evolution. We are seeing Darwinism at its most obvious right around us - just look at world politics. Keeping in mind, of course, that Darwinism is very nearly the polar opposite of Altruism and/
    or the Social Contract.

The significant difference is, I can afford to be wrong. LV and its ilk cannot.

It's Pascal's Wager, not Pachal's Wager, and it is nothing more than saying it's better to err on the side of caution. Big whoop, this is something
most people know and not some great undiscovere knowledge only you are privy to. Ignoring geological history, over population, and the destruction of
the planet's carbon cycle and instead spending all effort and limited resources on "green power" is not the best wager. Spending the bulk of effort
and resources on reducing fossil fuels at best might slow warming, but will not stop it, and we will have famine, disease, and wars by ignoring the
    other issues I mentioned.

This is the truth that socialist twats will never own.
You can't get them to discuss it - they'll mumble

Leftists kill. Like musloids, it's what they do. They
will kill you if you don't agree with them on virtually
*any* subject - because they can. They'll kill you for
thinking things which aren't approved by whatever evil

They'll kill you because you eat too much. They'll kill
you at any time, in any place, for any reason. If you
point out what they've done, if you disseminate ideas
or truths which they find inconvenient, they'll kill you
for that, too. And in the background, the silent corpses
point to the 100,000,000 of their brethren, eradicated
by this wonderful progressive ideology which would work
just fine if only the capitalists didn't suck up all the
resources. They find the solution simple: kill them all.
Socialism has failed every single time it's been tried,
and it will continue to do so. Forever.

So, tell me about the 100 million. Tell me why it was
necessary for them to die in the name of a one-world
socialist ideology. Why are they dead? 100 million.
Explain that, assholes. Man up and own it.

    <snip horseshit>

My goodness. I've seen this sort of leftist tripe
so many times before, and it's truly a marvel how
it never, ever changes, not one iota. Leftists are
so utterly convinced of their superiority they just
can't help raining pejoratives upon anyone who is
disinclined to toe their line. In the course of this
thread, Peter the Wieck has referred to yours truly
in the following fashion, while managing not to even
admit the existence of the accusation I proffered,
let alone addressing the guilt of his crew:

    pathetic
    ignorance
    stupid
    unencumbered by the thought process
    ignorance
    thoughtlessness
    overall essential stupidity
    ignorance
    one-trick pony
    boring
    invincibly ignorant
    stupid
    unencumbered by the thought process
    pig
    thoughtless
    ignorant
    stupid
    pathetic
    witless

This is the kind of "debate" one can expect when
confronting liberals online; the rhetoric changes
but little for actual confrontations in meatspace,
other than the fact that the same pejoratives will
be screamed in the opponents' faces, sometimes ending
with a smash to the skull with a bike chain bearing
a large combination lock on one end. This sort of
aggression is known, and often shown in video clips
shot by citizen journalists and posted to platforms
like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Vine, etc.
They are, of course, erased as quickly as the leftist
controllers of such platforms can ferret them out.
But some remain, some are propagated, and the message
flows. Count on it. And we (you can figure out who
"we" are, or not...don't care if you do or don't) are
educated as to your worldview now, and there are those
of us who spread this knowledge. Like this, for instance:

"Leftism at its heart holds that a small percentage of humans
have a vastly superior understanding of everything compared
to ordinary people. The point of leftism is to empower these
superior individuals to impose their superior understanding
upon society by the force of the state. Leftists must be
viewed by themselves and others as superior human beings if
they are to have a claim to power and status."
    - Shannon Love -

    Or this:

"If you ask progressives about their patriotic feeling,
they will tell you that they don't think of themselves
first as Americans but as 'citizens of the world.' That
even has a Harvard imprimatur. They are, in fact, so
profoundly alienated from their country as to be in some
sense foreigners to it. They are hostile to its history
and to its core values, which they see as reflections of
a society that has been guilty of racism and oppression
on an epic scale. And they are fundamentally opposed to
its constitutional arrangements which the framers
specifically designed to thwart what they deemed 'wicked
projects' to redistribute income and share individual
    wealth."
    - David Horowitz -

And then, there's this great rightwing sage:

"Somewhere along the line the leftards managed to launch a
meme which holds that skill in the arts (or mere popularity
from the practice thereof, skillfully or otherwise) somehow
confers expertise in every other area; this leads to pompous
pontifications on medical technology, energy consumption,
meteorology, general science, geopolitics and any number of
other specialized fields by those who know little more than
how to play the goddamn guitar. That's just fucking brilliant,
    isn't it?

Libs all know they're a bunch of snob fucks; it's evident.
They actually revel in this, never missing an opportunity
to proclaim their superiority or heap derision upon those
they regard as their inferiors on the one hand, and bleating
piously on the other about how 'tolerant' they are and how
'inclusive' and 'enlightened' their social policies are.
And their arrogance is such that they think it all goes
unnoticed, and that those so impugned accept their judgement
    without question."
    - Lord Valve -

So you go right on ahead and continue to tout your superiority
and righteousness, Mr. Wieck. You can continue to do so with
impunity, at least until your kind crosses that invisible line,
a line which is now ever so close. Once that happens, talk will
    cease and war will begin.

And we will bury you, and we will teach our children of the
mistakes you made and the arrogance with which you assumed
your "superiority" would allow you to impose your will on
people with no recompense. We understand that the Second
Amendment doesn't have anything to do with duck hunting or
muzzle-loaders; we realize that it was put in pace by patriots
who had just fought (and won) a long and bitter war against a
tyrant who ruled by decree and not by the consent of the
governed. They wanted to make sure that the populace would
have a way to remove any American government which had been
seized by men of low character and evil intent. Don't think
for one moment that we will not do it.

We think you're wrong, and we want you to change. You think
we are evil, and you want us to die.

Not gonna happen. We're Americans. We beat your kind before
and we can do it again. Try us.

well I do not plan on watching this video. Sorry. Knowing your

However, I don't believe the man-made climate change BULLSHIT at all.
With science, I can easily disprove the whole argument because it
centers on CO2, and CO2 does _NOT_ have the infrared absorption spectrum
it would need to be an actual CAUSE for ANY kind of climate change. And
since the climate-doomers ALWAYS focus on "carbon footprint" and OTHER

symptoms, a light fever, twice in fact (a week or so apart), and my
adult kid had similar symptoms at about the same point.

Studies from Standard suggest [and I believe it's VERY accurate] that
the case rate of COVID-19 is 50 to 85 times *HIGHER* than is being
reported. This basically mean that the demoniator of the calculation

right back at ya. I was a chemistry minor in college. I designed pH
and salinity measurement devices that fit on a very small circuit board,
which required using chemistry knowledge to not only engineer it, but
make it possible to calibrate and test operation. Additionally I spent
4 years on a submarine operating a nuclear reactor, and the schooling
required (physics, math, materials, chemistry, thermodynamics, etc.) is
the equivalent of a 4 year degree crammed into 1 [only most of it is classified]. Do YOU know how nuclear reactors work? Do YOU understand
how compton scattering and photoelectric effect absorb energy, and how photoemission COOLS a substance? As I thought...

I've done PLENTY with science, and I understand VERY well the following
    key concepts:

    a) equilibrium reactions
    b) solubility of gasses in water vs temperature
    c) black body radiation
    d) infrared absorption spectrums, and why they are important, including
CO2, which does NOT significantly absorb IR radiation for ANY
TEMPERATURES NORMALLY FOUND ON EARTH, so its presence in the atmosphere
is INVISIBLE to INFRARED RADIATION that escapes into outer space from
the earth at night, causing it to COOL DOWN
    e) HOW A GREENHOUSE GAS WORKS.

By the way - WATER is an EXCELLENT greenhouse gas. Why aren't the ENVIRO-WACKIES trying to CONTROL THAT, hmmm??? [it's because NOBODY
would accept it - our planet is FLOODED!!!]

Controlling CO2 will do *NOTHING*. *NOTHING*. Absolutely *NOTHING*

    Now, riddle me THIS batman:
    a) why is CO2 a greenhouse gas
    b) what MAKES it a greenhouse gas
    c) how does it affect temperature on earth; that is, what is the
mechanism by which an increase in CO2 would cause temperature to increase?
    d) why does measured atmospheric CO2 read higher in the vicinity of
    warmer water, especially underwater volcanos?
    e) how do dissolved carbonates in the water affect the equilibrium
reaction between atmospheric CO2, dissolved CO2 in the ocean, and the carbonates that precipitate out onto the ocean floor?

if you can successfully answer THOSE questions, you'll understand *THE* *SCIENCE* and stop believing in the *DOOMER* *LIES* that are often
    called "man-made climate change".

    Done now. Science.

Hey, I found it on YouTube, therefore it is 100% "THE TRUTH".

Smugly posting a link to several youtube videos, without commentary,
without summary, and without discussion, is not only rude and
condescending, it is AS BAD as being "bible thumped" by religious
zealots who quote scriptures at you like they're throwing rocks and knives.

So I won't be viewing any of those videos. Discussing is interesting,
even entertaining. Being propagandized by boring "get to the point
already" videos [I betcha they're filled with time-wasting fluff, I
don't even have to watch them to know that much] is NOT entertaining.
So why should I watch them?

And what does this have to do with vacuum tube electronics anyway?

If you REALLY want to stop alleged "global warming", we all should
    consider MORE NUCLEAR ENERGY.

And, I think, vacuum tubes can help. I've got some design concepts
running in my head for "million volt" rectifier tubes. The problem is
that with the design I'm thinking of, you'd need +1Megavolt (or higher)
to create a linear fusion reactor that uses (more tube tech) "particle bunching" to stimulate the reaction, in a manner similar to how a
travelling wave tube works. Using fixed energy levels and resonant frequencies, you should be able to pick an energy at which fusion is efficiently controlled, and sustain a reaction at that level.

Vacuum technology, again. In any case, a million volts is a million
volts, and it's VERY hard to insulate that. Since you need POSITIVE
million volts, you need it coming out of the CATHODE end of a rectifier.
I'm kicking around a design for a "million volt rectifier" that would
make this possihle. I suppose a stack of selenium rectifiers could do
it, too, so the tech is probably already there. But then you ALSO need
to be able to control the particle stream with other "vacuum tube like" electrodes and structures, all with "million volt" types of potential.

Having a GOOD understanding of vacuum tube operations would be critical
    in engineering this...

(I wonder how many people will actually see this)

I would guess that if you understand travelling wave tubes and klystrons
and magnetrons and high voltage rectifier circuits in old tube-style
TVs, that's all you'd really need to build this. That and a whole lot
of gummint regulations to overcome, due to X radiation at high voltages
    and RADCON requirements, yotta yotta.

Not a simple process, and many hours (per tube) for a single person to manage.

As to nuclear power - I am all for it. The issue, of course, is the waste - and that is entirely a matter of political will. There are over 1,500 bore-holes out in the Nevada desert that will be radioactive for the next 30,000 years, or more. Any three
of the larger ones could contain pretty much all the existing nuclear waste presently in storage. The only issue is getting the waste to the boreholes.

Add the concept of breeder reactors using the spent uranium fuel, and there is enough fuel available for the next 1,000 years, or so.

Make the reactors naval aircraft-carrier size vs. 3+meg size, and location, containment, and cooling requirements become small-town practical.

All of which, again, is a matter of political will. Can you say NIMBY?

Now, if both the tin-plate godlet and Pennywise the Clown become badly infected with COVID - we will get Nancy Pelosi as President Pro-Tem.

the bad thing about videos is having to watch 99% fluff and 1% content
after spending too long downloading them.

Not a simple process, and many hours (per tube) for a single person to manage.

I remember one video showing how to make a triode tube. I think it was directly heated, though. indirect heating requires special cathode
coating that probably reacts with normal air, so you'd have to keep it
nitrogen purged until after the tube has been assembled and you draw a
    hard vacuum on it.

Although I don't know if the videos go into details on metal/glass seal
and materials and glass formula. that's actually covered (to some
    extent) here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass-to-metal_seal

I see THAT as the single biggest hurdle, and most critical design choice.

I started looking for other stuff, grins, ran into the video links I
    added, and also this:

    http://vacuumtubefactory.com/

apparently the last small glass tube maker, and is downsizing and
selling of equipment and other stuff. Maybe this should be announced in
its own topic? Some people might want to go ther just to get their
hands on the rare tubes and prototypes...

yeah, I can just quote the claims on their web site. Maybe
westernelectric doesn't make "small glass tubes" any more??

In any case, it's nice to see more than one tube-maker still out there.
I should write both of them and find out what it costs to engineer a
prototype tube... [I've got some really good ideas].

If I were to get a provisional patent, I'd have about a year or so to
come up with an actual working device. I think I have something
relevant to very high voltage rectifier tubes [million volt power
supplies] and a very modern reason to have that kind of clean posiive DC voltage available (negative volts could be directly heated, too easy).

And to do that you need a rectifier capable of having a 2 million volt difference between plate and cathode, and the cathode needs to be on the
    output (i.e. a positive 1 million volts).

(control is easy, I've done switching power supply designs with a microcontroller, and it would drive a flyback circuit and anticipate
    voltage fluctuations, etc.).

There are also other interesting things that tubes could do. As one
example, it's likely (in my opinion) that spinning a charged gas in an
EM field (think magnetron) could generate graviton particles. And so
on. Yeah I still need to build one to prove it. Mercury vapor? Quite possibly!

So "obsoleting" the technology, or (worse) using environmental
regulations to drive tube making to ONLY places outside of the USA,
    would be a HUGE mistake.

**That would be just about the most banal political comment I've seen in
a very long time. ALL societies operate with a mix of all the above.
Some, better than others (Sweden has operated as a very successful
socialist state for a long time). Americans seem to be fearful of
socialism, yet are quite happy (well, not really happy, as such) to pay
their taxes so their society can function. Stuff like the military,
police forces, garbage collection, road construction, etc are all down
to the inherent socialism aspect to US society. And taxation. The
fundamental success of homo sapiens sapiens as a species is in no small
part due our inherent socialism. In the distant past, we were much
weaker than our competitors (Neanderthals), but were able to survive and
they were not. An over-simplification, to be sure, but socialism played
    a part.

As for the term 'conservative', I would posit that those who fight
against rampant development and for a more natural world are the
    ultimate conservatives.

Right now, the US is stuck with a bunch of fascists, who pass themselves
off as conservatives. That looks like it will change in January. And
    none too soon.

saved me the trouble of figuring out what that meant, thanks.

Thing is, nations have done that with response to COVID-19 also, and
MILLIONS LOST THEIR JOBS.  Whereas, Sweden of all places, didn't do a
"shut down" of ANY kind, and they're doing just fine...

**If you don't care that they've managed to dispose of a whole lot of
humans in the process. Facts are more prosaic in the light of day.
Sweden has managed to kill more of their citizens than their neighbours
who did lock down and their economy has done worse.

Then, of course, we have Australia and New Zealand. The deaths in both
nations has been extremely low and both nations are now running more or
    less normally.

So "err on the side of caution" is something BUREAUCRATS and "the
unaffected" LOVE to foist upon THE REST OF US.

I'd rather make my OWN choice thanks, and NOT have "some egghead" MAKE
    IT FOR ME.

**And what about the old an immuno-compramised? How about the medical professionals? Should they die, just because you view COVID-19 a small inconvenience? According to one source, that's 1,700 nurses in the US:

    https://www.fiercehealthcare.com/practices/report-how-many-u-s-healthcare-workers-have-died-from-covid-19-contracted-job

I have PERSONALLY been saying all along, and I *KNOW* I am right, that COVID-19 is more like a BAD COLD or BAD INFLUENZA, and we do NOT shut
    down for INFLUENZA.

    **Except that COVID-19:

    * Is MUCH more transmissable.
    * Is NOT influenza.
    * Has medium term (3 ~ 6 months) health impacts on some, otherwise
healthy, people that prevent them from contributing to society.
    * Has unknown long term health effects on every sufferer.

Additionally, since COVID-19 restrictions were put in place in
Australia, the deaths from the annual influenza strains has fallen dramatically. Win-win.

Additionally I'm sure I had it back in the
December/January time frame when a co-worker came back from China and
then had to go home sick with fever and cough, etc..  I had mild
symptoms, a light fever, twice in fact (a week or so apart), and my
adult kid had similar symptoms at about the same point.

**Go and find out. You may still have antibodies in your system which
    can be detected.

Studies from Standard suggest [and I believe it's VERY accurate] that
the case rate of COVID-19 is 50 to 85 times *HIGHER* than is being reported.  This basically mean that the demoniator of the calculation
that determines the death rate is 50 to 85 times BIGGER.  It also
suggests California has some level of herd immunity ALREADY.

**Since there has been several cases of people acquiring COVID-19
multiple times, so-called herd immunity maybe a myth.

And yet, here we are... "erring on the side of caution".  OVER-caution.
And MILLIONS OF PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS.

**A job is not much good if you're dead. It's really not that difficult.
Lock down hard for a few weeks = COVID-19 is gone. Australia. New
Zealand, Taiwan, etc have done it and their economies are rapidly
getting back into action. The US, the UK and others are suffering with a medical system that is near collapse and they are running out of places
    to bury their dead.
