But, these teams of writers somehow made it work! I really felt for all of Dina's 'children today, especially Traci, whom she had been treating like hired help, when she remembered her at all.
So, all's at peace for the Abbotts. Great job, Marla Adams!
This scene reminded me so much of a personal event in my own life.
I had a beloved Uncle who was in a care facility with Alzheimers. My
"Uncle Clyde" was an old timer who had played the guitar and along
with my father, was in minstrel shows where they would sing and play
for fun. Uncle CLyde hadn't recognized anyone at all for months, he
was in his own world in his mind and he just stared and didn't respond
to any outside stimulus.
I was visiting my Aunt from out of state, and she took me to the
nursing home to see Uncle Clyde. I brought my guitar with me and as
he sat there and stared into space, I played and sang what I knew had
been one of his and my father's favorite songs. When I was almost at
the end of the song, his eyes came into focus his face lit up and he
said, "Louie!" (my father's name). He smiled and smiled, and my Aunt
and I had a good cry because we were so happy to see that he was still
in there somewhere. In a few minutes his eyes went blank again and he
went back to staring at nothing.
My Uncle Clyde passed away not long after that, but as long as I live
I will never forget the joyful look on his face when he recognized
that song and it made him so happy. So I know that the DIna story was
not to far-fretched, as far as her having a few lucid moments being
triggered by a deep memory from her past.
The whole necklace story was absolutely contrived and ridiculous. But
Dina's reaction wasn't. Despite the storyline's obvious weaknesses, I
loved it!
