Three people have been charged with helping a Limestone County
inmate escape from his work release assignment over the weekend.
Corey Jefferson, 29, was working at an Athens business early
Saturday morning when he walked away. He turned himself in to
authorities later that day.
As investigators probed the escape, however, they learned that
Jefferson had used a coworker's cell phone - without the owner's
knowledge - and called a friend, Dana Alan Green, 45, of Athens.
Jefferson asked Green to pick him up during his lunch break and
"bring him a girl," said Stephen Young, a Limestone County
Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Green gathered two other people, Rickey Levon Gilbert, 46, and
Kimberly Tashea Redus, both of Athens, and they picked Jefferson
up around 1:30 a.m. It was not immediately clear if Redus was
the date Jefferson asked for.
They all went to Gilbert's house on East Strain Road after the
escape, Young said.
Jefferson's three accomplices are each charged with first-degree
facilitating escape. Each was booked into the Limestone County
jail Sunday in lieu of $25,000 bond.
