Hooray! Honey G finally went home yesterday!
Although I don't understand Five After Midnight being in the bottom 2
with her. But no matter, they will no doubt be the most successful
this year of the contestants whether they win or not.

I was mildly surprised though that it wasn't; Emily to go home; she
had the worst night last night although she was still good. No doubt
all of Ireland is voting for her.

I've found it odd that not once during this season has Simon
criticized Saara for being "too Broadway" of "too Cruise Ship" or "Too
West End." He's sure criticized contestants in the past mercilessly
when they sing with those trained Theater voices rather than having
pop voices. In fact, Saara is a professional theater singer and
actress in Finland besides being a professional singing contest
    competitor (The Voice, Eurovision etc.).

Personally I think the final two acts that should be in the finals are
Five After Midnight and Matt Terry. We shall see.

I have wondered that too. She'd be great in the West End. But, as
Louis often says, we are looking for a recording artiste, and she can
sing, so maybe he sees a record or two in her of something other than pop.

Yes, maybe. After all, the biggest selling female singer of all time
from the UK was Susan Boyle. So one never knows.

Exactly. I do not think we either wants or expects her to win,
but there is potential for anyone in the top 4 to get a deal, and make
    some money.

It is what I would hope for. Generally I don't get what I hope for.

    Same here; I'm usually disappointed.

Although come the final 2 I have seen the one I preferred, of the two,
win, the last time I was not at all disappointed was when Will Young
beat Gareth Gates in Pop Idol, much to Simon's displeasure. ;-)

A huge relief. I have mostly enjoyed the "novelty" acts, as they
usually have something making them watchable, but this one has left me
so cold you can see the icicles.

I think so, I voted for them Saturday, obviously not often enough. ;-)

In all the seasons of American Idol, only once did my favorite win
(Carrie Underwood). But in the brief 3-season run of the X-Factor
USA, my favorites won two of the three seasons. And in the UK's
X-Factor, I've more often than not been let down -- although there
have been several winners that I liked from the start of their
seasons: Lenoa Lewis, Leon Jackson, Joe McEldery, Matt Cardle and Sam
Bailey. It's sure been a mixed bag of success stories from that bunch
    post-XF though!

Yep. season 7 is a great example of that. Matt Cardle (who was my
favorite at the time) was the winner of the season but is still
largely unknown outside of the UK. And yet from that same season
came "losers" One Direction, Cher Lloyd (and to a lesser extent)
Rebecca Ferguson who are international stars.

And the year before Olly Murs came second to Joe McElderry and IIRC was >described in one results show this year as the most successful x factor
star ever ( though they may well have been referring to the UK for all I >know, he has certainly sold a lot of records and won a number of
awards). Joe moved on from Syco, moved onto a another contest Popstar
to Opera Star, won that and now appears in musicals. So he did fine
just not quite what one might expect!

    >^..^<

I really believe that the songs on a debut album have a great deal to
do with whether or not a singer has great success as a recording
    artist. Olly has had *great* songs with catchy lyrics and beats;
people like a song they can hum along with. Unfortunately Joe M (whom
I still believe is one of the best voices to come out of X-Factor BTW)
was handed a steaming pile of unmemorable slick pop music crap to
record. I was genuinely surprised that Joe never made it big. Simon
had said he was bringing Joe to America to audition for the lead in
"High School Musical II," but it never happened. Crap songs and no
    promotion.
I have my own theory on what happened with him. Brits are a lot less
judgmental than most Americans. Sure, you have your tabloid press but
it's mostly in good fun. People are more tolerant there. Joe came
out of the closet at an unfortunate time in his career, when openly
gay celebrities were still not being accepted here in the USA. Just a
few short years since then, public acceptance of LGBTQ individuals has
    changed dramatically here.
Nobody will ever convince me that wasn't the reason Joe was dropped
by Simon's Syco label. I think that for the same reason, Adam
Lambert was very fortunate to have been the American Idol runner up
and not the winner. He got to do what he wanted to do, and now he's
an international superstar -- and a very ,very wealthy one.

I agree, the winners get stuck with whatever the label wants from the,
losers get to choose. They can follow their own route. I love Adam
Lambert and he would never have suited the mould of Winner.

I can't say I was surprised that Joe didn't make it big. I know he can
sing - winning Pop Star to Opera Star proved that if there had been any
doubt - but he didn't have the personality to be that pop star so he is
far better suited to doing musicals, and selling records on the back of
that. Seems Simon thought so too if he thought of HSM2 for him! I
can't comment on what America thought, of course.:-)

Olly OTOH is the complete package. A nice voice which may not be the
best but is recognisable when you hear him on the radio, a great
personality on stage and screen, and gets the right sort of music for him.
