• X Factor first live shows last weekend

From Zob@21:1/5 to All on Tue Oct 31 15:57:08 2017
I do like the new format with no "deadlock" and the viewer votes
deciding who goes home. This eliminates at least some of the
    potential manipulation by the producers.

And both Saturday and Sunday's eliminations were the perfect example.
IMO both the American Spencer Sutherland and Talia Dean were the right
choices. Spencer came across to me as too phony, and Talia had the
weakest voice among the girls. Looks to me like Britain got it right.

I wonder how long Simon Cowell will be out?

And BTW, I don't know how Sharon Osbourne does it. She'sin her 60's,
and is flying back and forth between London on weekends to do the
X-Factor live, and Los Angeles where she is a daily weekday co-host of
CBS's "The Talk." I guess earning millions is a strong motivator.

Though it will be a shame if someone who should be around till the end
has a bad week with an unfortunate song choice, or even some tactical
voting, and can't be saved, I like the simplicity. And the sing off
for first place was fun too.

    Agreed.

And no doubt flying first class helps.:-)

True. It's a good thing -- or "a good job" as you Brits say ;-) --
that "Vote For The Worst" website closed down. But you never know. I
remember how some group of X-Factor haters organized a Facebook
campaign a few years ago urging people to buy a Rage Against The
Machine song with the sole intention of usurping Simon Cowell's annual domination of the #1 Christmas single... and it worked. RATM
ridiculously edged out Joe McEldery for the "honor." If that sort of
movement got started to skew the XF vote this season, well, without
the judges having a say there is no protection against that sort of
    thing.

    And the sing off
for first place was fun too.

    Yes!
I really like Grace Davies BTW. She reminds me of Adele both in her
look and in her singing. I'm glad she won the trip.

No doubt! From what I've seen (on TV and the internet anyway), the
first class seats on intercontinental flights are like mini luxury
hotel rooms with showers, beds, televisions, wifi, a bar, etc. But
still, the jet lag of flying through seven time zones twice a week
must be killer on the mind and body!

Do they? This Brit would say "good thing". :-)

Exactly. I never minded the fact the judges could save someone in that situation - though I didn't always agree with whom they saved. ;-)

I have liked her since her first audition, she's different to the usual
    girls.

I have glimpsed them through curtains on planes - and a friend of mine
treated herself to an Upper Class flight home earlier this year.

I don't get jet lag UK to US ( though normally East Coast I have done
West ), just go to bed a little earlier than I do at home, but coming
home is a killer, because I can't sleep sitting up, and even if I did it
isn't long enough ( though not so bad from the West Coast, you do get an
hour or 2 more ). But my friend said it was great actually lying down
and sleeping, so maybe it doesn't affect Sharon too much. And it is
only for a few weeks for the lives, I would think the audition process
    was dealt with differently.
