The Machine Robo toy line started in 1982. The Challenge of the GoBots TV show started in 1984. The anime series Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos came out in 1986. So the GoBots cartooon came before the Machine Robo cartoon.
Question 3:If no to question 2 what other show did they use?
Some GoBots characters were made up by Bandai and Tonka and never used in Machine Robo, like Zod, the Boomers, Scales, the ships and all the humans.
