I received a very nice invitation in the mail to join DVC at an outrageous price. Riviera would be our home resort. I think I'm going to take the plunge!!!

    Congratulations ,
I would love to but I don’t think the time is right for me. But if I wait for the right time, that may never happen😉

    Patty,
By outrageous price, do you mean outrageously high, or outrageously reasonable? Hoping it’s the latter!

Yeah, I had the same question! I assume "low"?

    I thought of that after I posted it. It's $6 a point up to 199 points. I don't
think I can't do it! My daughter said she would shell out some money
to help with the dues. Think I'm going for it.

    No, no typo. Dead serious!

I'll find out if there is a catch when I call.

At $6 you could rent out half the points in the first year and be paid
off in entirety. Even when DVC was brand new I think the original rate
    was $48.

Are these restricted points somehow? At that price I would think there
    has to be a catch.

The $6/point is most likely the discount. So if points are $180, then you'd pay $174 per point.

1991 would have been the year - $50/point and free park passes for the next 9 years! I didn't discover dvc until 2005 and didn't buy until 1997 (paid $60/point & got the free park passes for use by my guests for the next few years). My add-ons were
higher, as the price just goes up, up, up!

We came soooo close to buying in back in 200g. Jan and I did the tour
and were sitting in the office, pretty much ready to sign and we decided
to take some time to visit the DVC Points Calculator site and make sure
we got the right number of points for our typical trips. The day we got
back home, DD called to let us know that she and her hubby were moving
back to BHM from ATL. We decided we'd put off the DVC investment until
we knew how much "help" they were going to need, which ended up being
much more than we'd have invested in DVC and the value was much less. :-(
