Apparently the company went through several artists over the years and
tweaked Miko's appearance and they just hired a new artist starting this
year.
The second artist was an assistant to the original artist. She must have taken over because the original artist became too busy.

Also, 美子 is usually pronounced as "Yoshiko." Many kanji characters have multiple pronunciations in Japan and there really isn't a straightforward
rule on how to pronounce them when they are parts of someone's name. I once read a Japanese baby-name book and one common character had whopping twelve ways to be pronounced.
