The near future, in a quiet seaside town. Yoshioka, who had
recently lost his wife, just wants to spend the rest of his
days in peace. However, Yoshioka’s children, worried about
their father's health, sent a housekeeping robot to help
him. Yoshioka’s quiet life is now changing.
Well it is a robot who looks like a cute girl maid
but has worked in housekeeping for over 30 years and will
be sent to salvage and turned into 500 yen coins after
completion of her assignment. He resents Ponko's presence
but does not want it turned into 500 yen coins. He does
get more active though after Ponko shows up. The
name is disrespectful and short for useless heap of garbage
and Ponko does not like it.
In chapter 5 we learn that Yoshioka's late wife
had chosen the robot who had helped take care of her at
the hospital.
This is a very good robot manga and touching at times but
a worthwhile amusement. Humor comes from the old man's
responses to the robot.
