At least even with mask mandates dropping, you still wear face masks on
public transportation, even school buses!
Keep in mind depending on lead time, Norm likely drew this strip
before the CDC's recent announcement on masks but yes, I can attest
that where I live, you still have to wear a mask when riding the
bus.
It varies. Here's the current policy in Rochester NY:
"The State’s mask mandate in schools has ended, effective Wednesday,
March 2, 2022.
Students, staff, and visitors are no longer required to wear a mask in
any school setting (including on yellow school buses) unless they have
tested positive and are returning after 5 days of isolation. Currently,
per NYS and Federal requirements, students who ride RTS are still
required to wear a mask while on the bus."
RTS is the area public transit, which carries some high school students.
