    desks in a single open room—a little wider than a typical public-school classroom—while the manager had a small office a few doors the hall. So
    when he wanted to address the whole crew, he came to us, stood at the
    front like a teacher, and talked.

    large room back in the 1980s. No privacy whatsoever. And one of us
    could not control his AMEX card usage so he would get the phone call of
    shame from AMEX every week. After which, we all taunted him.

    A company card, or person calls at work?

    His AMEX card that he used for both business and personal. He had
    listed his desk phone number to get his card.

    We were roving field engineers for our 16,000 person business. We were
    all on the road at least half the time so we just had a desk with a phone.
