It used to be getting a package was special. Now it is just Monday.

And I got those x-ray glasses. They did not work. Nothing I got out of
the back of the comic books worked.

Probably a good thing they didn't work. You'd be dosing people with unnecessary amounts of radiation every time you looked at them.

If they got you to buy the comic books, they worked just fine.

My friend in third grade managed to spend five dollars for directions on "Anti-Gravity-- No Exotic Fuels, Gases, Or Magnetism" as advertised in the
back of a comic book. He got a pamphlet on solid fuel rockets. Five dollars seemed to me such an enormous sum of money that losing it would have been a total crisis. He was disappointed but not fazed.
