• First tunnels

    Fuck you, Kavin. ;-)

With that out of the way, does anyone know when tunnels were popularized?

I started off with a pair of punched 2g lobes in 2001. Someone saw mine today, now 00g, and commented. Said I had them done about fifteen years ago and they replied, something like, you must have had them done before they were cool.

    Hnnnh.

Define "popularized". The first real piercing studio in NYC, that would
sell supplies like 0ga and larger jewelry, opened in 1991. Before that
you could sometimes find a tattoo artist that had a supply or find a
    place in California.

    I had a 12ga piercing that I stretched to 0ga or 00ga in 1994/1995. It
was still 12ga when OJ was getting chased on TV, and stretched by the
same time the next year. They were popular only on the fringes then.

I still have a rec.arts.bodyart tee-shirt from about that time. It has
Da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man" in a circle made from a captive-bead ring and covered in tribal tattoos.
