HBO Max Developing Garbage Pail Kids Animated Series
----------------------------------------------------
The Hollywood Reporter brings word that HBO Max is developing
a family-friendly Garbage Pail Kids animated series. The
project comes from co-creators and writers Danny McBride,
David Gordon Green, and Josh Bycel (Solar Opposites) and was
inspired by McBride and Green's love for Garbage Pail Kids
and Saturday morning cartoons. The new show is expected to
appeal to audiences of all ages.
The series will be executive produced by Tornante TV's Noel
Bright and Steven A. Cohen along with Rough House's Brandon
James, as well as McBride, Green, and Bycel.
Garbage Pail Kids was created by the Topps Company in 1985 as
a series of sticker trading cards that were designed to parody
the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls, which were popular at the time.
The Garbage Pail Kids became a worldwide phenomenon with their
gross-out humor and subversive attitude and recently
celebrated its 35th Anniversary.
Garbage Pail Kids were previously adapted into a live-action
movie and an animated TV series in 1987, though the series
never aired in the U.S. due to "controversial themes."
