• Trying to track down a book I read in the 1960s or 70s

It was a collection of stories about WWI, which I'm pretty sure was
published before WWII, since the title was something like "Stories of the
Great War", as WWI was known before WWII.

It was a YA book to the best of my memory, with a somewhat sanitised view
of the war. The stories I can remember anything about were about a
British sniper on the Western Front, and about the battlecruisers of the
Royal Navy. I can't remember any character names or story titles.

I remember it as being a fairly thick hardback in a red binding; if it
had a dust jacket, it was lost by the time I saw it.

    Any guesses?

I hate to say it, but you're generally better off asking your question at Abebooks - either the Community Forum or Booksleuth.
