• Happy (late) 80th, Ron Wilson! (British biologist)

From Lenona@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jan 26 13:29:34 2021
His birthday was on the 23rd. He lives in Weedon, Northamptonshire, England.

Not to be confused with the Toronto biologist. Or the Marvel Comics artist.

    From Contemporary Authors:

    CAREER:
Sir Harry Smith Community College, Cambridgeshire, teacher and head of biology department, 1963-74; Everdon Field Centre, Northamptonshire, England, director and head teacher, beginning 1974. Secretary and editor, Daventry Methodist Church Council,
    beginning 1982.

Wilson said: "...Perhaps one of the most challenging topics has been an assignment that I have recently undertaken. I was approached by the World Education Service to write some environmental studies material that could be used in various parts of the
world by parents who have to educate their own children. These are many English parents who find themselves sent to a foreign land as part of their jobs. In many isolated places there are no schools, and in the project we want them to become involved
with the world around them where they are. This is challenging, because there is such a diversity of situation in which the parents find themselves.

"The books that I have written are all nonfiction. Some are aimed at children, some at adults, and some can be used by both. In titles like the Nature Detective's Notebook, the book is practical and encourages the child to do things. The series of four
young naturalists books which I am working on at the moment will tell children about specific areas--e.g., woodland, hedgerows, etc.--and then they will be able to discover and find out more about their own particular habitats.

"Sometime--perhaps in the future--I might be able to produce some fictional books. I did write a children's novel, but it has never reached the booksellers' shelves!"
